2017 Preview | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Carbon Hill finished the 2016 season with a disappointing 1-9 record. Last year Carbon Hill finished seventh in Class 3A region four with a 0-6 region record and failed to qualify for the playoffs. The Bulldogs have not qualified for the playoffs since the 1999 season and would love to end that streak this year. The Bulldogs last playoff victory came during the 1999 season. They would love to break through this year with a post season win. Carbon Hill was inconsistent offensively last year and they need some improvement if the Bulldogs want to be competitive. They only averaged 16.0 points a game. Carbon Hill struggled on the defensive side of the football last year. The defense found little success in stopping opposing offenses as they gave up an average of 45.3 points a game. The Bulldogs would prefer to forget the past two seasons as they have finished with a 2-18 record. Since 2010, the Carbon Hill football program has struggled with a record of 8-62. Over the past 25 seasons, Carbon Hill has not won much with a record of 74-190. Their 28.0% winning percentage ranks 55th in Class 3A and 352nd in the AHSAA. Their last winning season was 2006. The Bulldogs are led by head coach Scott Curd who is entering his second season at the helm. His team finished with a 1-9 record in his first season at Carbon Hill. The Bulldogs have yet to reach the playoffs under his direction. They have not won a region crown with Coach Curd. Coach Curd's overall record as a head football coach in seven season stands at 13-57 (18.6%). The Bulldogs have won just eleven games over the past decade. The Carbon Hill Bulldogs will play in Class 3A region four during the 2017 season. This season, the Bulldogs will be a long shot for one of the four playoff spots in region four. The Bulldogs open the 2017 season on the road against non-region opponent Locust Fork on Friday, August 25 at Pate Field. Last year the Locust Fork Hornets finished with an overall record of 7-4 and in third place in Class 3A region six. The Hornets lost in the first round of the Class 3A playoffs to Ohatchee by a score of 49-28. Carbon Hill and Locust Fork have met a total of 2 times on the football field. The Bulldogs have a 1-1-0 record against the Hornets. They last met in 2016 with Locust Fork winning by a score of 27-6. Carbon Hill returns 3A All-State Junior receiver Carson McGinnis. He was named to the honorable mention team last season. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
